Departure

We've had a bit of a dry spell for Sarah Jane news lately [April Fools jokes aside], but we've got plenty to keep you happy on the SJA front this week!

Pictures and videos from series four filming done over the past few days are starting to crop up, offering us a rare glimpse of what The Nightmare Man two-parter's going to be about well in advance of its airdate later this year. You can follow the stream of Twitter updates here, or even check out some of the spoilery set report videos courtesy of SJA aficionado, Timeboy.

Those videos, however, are nowhere NEAR as spoilery as SFX Magazine's recent interview with SJA executive producer, Nikki Wilson, where she stated:

[SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! HIGHLIGHT TO REVEAL!]

"We have plans to introduce a new character into the gang for series five..."

Not that that's a bad thing... It's just...VERY big news. Atom Bomb big =D It does, however, mean that one of the regular cast members will be leaving the show to make room for the newbie. :( I won't say who, but if you're following the set reports on Gallifrey Base, Twitter and Youtube - it isn't hard to guess.

Nikki Wilson went on to state that in series four, the gang would be in the "first year of their A-levels" and that the show will be opening with "a big story for Luke, which [will be] about him facing his fears for the future." *hint hint*

Returning aliens will include Androvax from Prisoner of the Judoon [yaay!] and the Slitheen/Blathereen, who'll have a smaller role to play this series [phew!]. Personally, I quite liked The Gift - so I wouldn't really mind seeing a little more of our beloved Raxacoricofallapatorians. :P There'll also be a 'classic' Who character coming onto the show. We'd like to see the Brig again, plz!

Wilson also elaborates that the gang's journey to another world this series won't encompass the whole story, and that the trip back in time will be a 'quest' [to find something or someone? *shrug*]. I assume that as Androvax is back this series, so too are the Judoon. Perhaps Clyde and Rani will have their ban on off-world travel lifted in time for their jaunt to another planet? =D

Wilson concludes on a teasey note, hinting to the possibility of Matt Smith meeting the SJA gang one day. After giving a rather epic performance during The Eleventh Doctor last Saturday, we'd wholeheartedly approve!

In other news, the third series of SJA is up for download on iTunes UK, Tommy Knight's doing a signing at Collectormania next month, a cover for Elisabeth Sladen's new autobiography is up on Amazon and the new series of K9 finally kicked off on Disney XD last Saturday! Despite seemingly airing episodes out of order, you can still catch your favourite robotic pooch every Saturday at 4pm!

Interesting. I won't miss him much since he's a pretty dull character but I am excited about a new addition to the team!

Bring on the Autumn!

That does seem to be the general consensus!

Series One Luke was amazing, though. But the character may have developed a little too quickly in later seasons, losing much of his original charm. So a new character may inject some of that charm back into the show.

The fangirls are going to be crushed, though. Most of them only watch the show 'cause of him.

Hmmm... Not sure how I feel about this casting spoiler!

On the one hand, yeah his character development has been a bit hit and miss over the seasons, but Sarah Jane's character development has been amazing. Watching her as a mum has been brilliant and it's a lovely contrast (and development) when you compare that to how she was in the "old school" episodes.

The family element is a nice part of the series too, the Smiths are a lovely family unit and they play off each other really well. I know Tommy's just started his A Levels, so his AS exams will be looming this summer. It makes sense, but I'm wary about losing something that for me is a main part of the appeal of the show.

I'm not pleased about Luke leaving but as long as it's written well I can deal. Really unhappy with a return visit from the Slitheen/Blathereen as I feel they've been overused at this point; hope this is the last we see of them for at least a season. But any classic Who characters are always welcome, as are Androvax and/or the Judoon. And a visit from the 11th Doctor would be fantastic!

ARG ARG ARG ARG ARG ARG ARG!
Spoilers are difficult things. I mean, do you actually expect that you can say 'here is a ginormous spoiler' and then for us NOT to read it?

As for "The fangirls are going to be crushed, though. Most of them only watch the show 'cause of him"... I would like to protest! I mean, YES i'm a fangirl, and YES he is a piece of gorgeous, but.... well, I have a lot of time for Daniel Anthony. Even if he's too old for me. Humph.
The one thing I am annoyed about: does this mean the answer to the Great Luke-Maria Debate is no?
Sad face.
OH an incidentally: I'm trying to coin the term 'Muke". like Cluke and Clani, it's a shippery name, which I've decided the fandom is in need of. Come on - the alternative is "Laria", which sounds like some kind of foot disease!

ARG ARG ARG ARG.
Love (and thaks for the spoilers, I love 'em really),
Ella

Oh Ella, your comments made me lol =P Foot disease! Rofl.

Muke will prevail!

Though, personally, I'm more saddened by the loss of Cluke! :( Whether as a friendship or something more, the characters had great on-screen adorkableness. At least they seem to have a lovely goodbye hug, which'll keep most Cluke fans satiated.

Maruke?
Marike?

Lukia?
Lukria?

Plenty of options. If I ever do portmanteau words with my classes I'll get them to come up with something. ;o)

And as a non-fangirl I'm still gutted about this. There's more to Luke's character than the 'ship/slash takes, there's a whole range of relationships that are going to be affected by this departure. I can only hope that Luke comes back on occasion; if Luke is going travelling then he would come back to see his mum and his friends.

Be very happy with Luke being the "companion of the week"... ;)

Nooo!! 'Sniff,sniff'.

I don't want Luke to leave!
I am a fangirl, as he is gorgeous. However he is not the only reason I watch the show. I think that he is a key part to Sarah Jane's character as well. I do think that his character did progress too quickly though, as innocent and oblivious Luke was better! X
