Smithies, Don't Panic!

With news spreading far and wide of Doctor Who's 2009 'gap year' fans of this very site are reminded to keep calm. We don't know if the announcement will effect The Sarah Jane Adventures (or Torchwood) in any way - so don't go presuming that Doctor Who's hiatus means that Sarah Jane's spin-off has been cancelled beyond it's first or second seasons. Got that? Good, now where were we...?

INVASION OF THE BANE HITS DVD

Aside from the Doctor Who 'gap er' news item, today also saw the release of the classic series adventure "The Time Warrior" on DVD; and I'm pleased to say that I've got my copy already. The bonus features include an Elisabeth Sladen commentary, and a featurette on the making of the story (entitled "Beginning of the End"). The documentary looks at the casting of Sarah Jane Smith, and how Elisabeth Sladen developed her character behind the scenes.

Talking of Sarah Jane-centric DVDs, and Virgin Megastore has released the apparent cover for the DVD release of "Invasion of the Bane" - the pilot episode of the SJA. The DVD is expected to be a vanilla release, and retails at £12.99 when it hit shelves on October 29th. You can see the cover at the top of the page. Leave your reactions below.

Oh, and keep your eyes peeled folks - those trailers should be airing on CBBC any day now...

I was fairly gutted at the news of the gap year, but if it means David Tennant will stick around as the Doctor for longer, then so be it. At least we should have Torchwood and Sarah Jane to keep us entertained during 2009 (fingers crossed!)
I already have the DVD of 'Invasion of the Bane' on order - I loved the episode and thought it was a very strong pilot.

Has there been any mention on whether this release follows the Doctor Who pattern whereby there will be a box set later on, or is this individual release the only way to get the episode?

Time warrior is a good story and like the rest of the season much neglected and wrongfully under-rated .
Sarah jane is a breath of fresh air and here in Australia, we're eagerly awaiting to see this good story.

I would like to know who Lis replaced
after another actress didn't work out, after Katy and before Lis.
Will we ever know?.

I speculate it may have been Jacqui Stanbury who played the wench Mary in the story.
She had a non speaking part in the story but parts were cut out in production as she wasn't good enough.
Could she have been given a minor role after it didn't work out with her as the new assistant?.
Just speculation

I'm torn - on the one hand, a box set seems very likely based on the well-publicised Who DVD format [and the less well-publicised Torchwood format]. On the other, would the Beeb bother with a kid's show boxset?

I think I'm going to be optimistic and hold out for a set... until the temptation gets too much!
