What Doth A Good Companion Make?

While we sit chewing ourselves to the bone waiting for news on a start date for production proper, I just thought I would share a few musings with you.

This weekend, as an alternative to the rugby (try living in Wales and not liking rugby ... you get very funny looks), I sat down and went through some old Doctor Who stories. And the more I watched, the more I realised how lucky we are to have The Sarah-Jane Adventures heading our way. Over the last two days, I have seen adventures with Leela, Adric, Nyssa, Tegan, Turlough and Peri.

What if one of them had been given the return appearance in School Reunion? Would we be here today talking of how great Invasion of the Bane was when Leela jumped the Bane Mother and beat her with a stick? Or wondering where Tegan's zany & wacky career as an air steward would take her next?

So, why Sarah-Jane? The obvious answer is simple. As a journalist, she would be investigating things, getting into scrapes, seeking new life and new civilisations ... oh hang on ... that's someone else .. but you get the point. I feel there is more to it.

Now, not to detract from any performances or writings relating to other companions, but Sarah Jane just has more to her as a character. Personally, I feel she represents how I hope I would behave if the Doctor whisked me away this afternoon (even though chances are I would be a big girls blouse and scream and run away a lot)

Sarah-Jane is that little bit smarter than the average companion, without being so smart that we cant identify with her. Lis Sladen is a fine actress, who brings a very subtle and believable quality with her to the screen. I'd defy many an actress to bring such power to her goodbye with The Doctor in School Reunion and any of you who didn't have at least one little tear, really should check you haven't been given an 'upgrade' (see what I did there?)

Well, I could go on for pages, but will now hand over to you! What is the Sarah-Jane appeal to you? (keep it clean). Are there companions you would like to see turn up and assist Sarah-Jane for one adventure? Comments in the box as usual please!

I think it's just the fact that the relationship between her and the doctor was so great, her and doctor four especially, i'm not baggin on three, it just worked better with four.
Plus superb acting from Elisabeth, she just brings something special to the character, i dunno what it is, but it's special.

i think that its how i can relate to her so much i think she is brilliant and superb. The chemistry between Lis and Tom will never be replaced in the history if Who and that is a rare thing. Its simple really i just adore her.

I met her in 1983 at a convention; she was as nice in person as on TV; it's her personality; she's just wonderful!

omg anthony i'm so jealous!

But i'm also not jealous, i've always said to myself that i dont want to meet my heroes, i just would rather have the image in my head of her as the fabulous Sarah Jane than one day meet her and find out she's a total B***h.

I mean i'm sure she's not, but it would break my heart if that happened so i'd rather admire her from afar.
