Final Haul

Thursday's broadcast of Mona Lisa's Revenge brought in a staggering 1 million viewers with a 7.4% share of the audience! That's the second highest viewing figures for series three since The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith, Part 1 aired a few weeks ago - and this was without a cameo by the Doctor!

Like Wedding, the second half pulled in fewer viewers with only 0.8 million peeps tuning in. Which isn't the best, but it's certainly respectable for a slot that usually brings in an average of 0.4 million viewers. :)

With the penultimate two-parter out of the way, the series finale is approaching fast! In just a few days, we'll have said our goodbyes to the show for yet another year! But with stories already being penned for next year and the possibility of a 60-minute SJA special written by Gareth Roberts in the works, the future of our beloved Sarah Jane Adventures seems all but secure!

You only need to be concerned with filling up time between seasons, during which the inevitable SJA withdrawal kicks in(!) One option's to purchase the recently released second series boxset, currently available in the UK and US:

For those of you who haven't bought it yet, that's what you can expect from the UK boxset - which, judging by last years first season release in America, is probably going to be more aesthetically pleasing than its US counterpart.

Aesthetics may possibly be all the second series set has going for it, though - 'cause unless you're after the episodes alone, you'll probably be disappointed at the extras [or lack thereof] featured on the discs. Though in all fairness, for the low-low price of £12.98 - you get what you pay for.

In other news, don't forget to enter our competition to win one of five tickets to Memorabilia this Sunday, where you'll have the opportunity to sit in on a panel with Tommy Knight, Daniel Anthony and Anjli Mohindra - and get some stuff signed by 'em too! Deadline for the competition is midnight tonight, and five randomly selected winners will be announced tomorrow! And...

Remember!! The Gift Part's One and Two, the series three finale two-parter, will be airing this Thursday and Friday @ 4:35pm, on BBC One/HD!

That's amazing! So many people watching what is essentially a CBBC show - wow!

And thanks Nabu, for putting up the review of the boxset. Christmas List stock, I think. Just curious, is it Yasmin or Anjli in the interview with BP?

Nabu San said...

It's this one, fairly short ^_^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDmGI1sxSR0

I think Sarah would point out that part 2 pulled in fewer viewers...

(sorry; couldn't resist)

Thanks, Nabu! I know there was a visit Yasmin made to the BP set, but I can't find the video anywhere!

ipsissimuss - Well, it is called the Sarah Jane Adventures for a reason. But Lis can't work 24/7.

Coincidence much!
I just got that boxset yesterday! :D

Hello faithful reader!

I'm putting together a 'Family Fortunes' quiz show for the folk at my work early in the new year, and need to survey 100 people for it ("We asked a hundred people to name...")

Any volunteers to take part?

Email me on captainjackharkness@hotmail.co.uk

Thanks in advance!

Coincidentally, John Barrowman and his family were on Family Fortunes recently!

The 'Gareth Roberts' Special was Comic Relief - Du !

Is there any chance that SJ will be moved from CBBC ?

Nabu San said...

I don't think the Comic Relief special was part of Series IV, or 60 minutes long ^_^

CBBC make the show so...no probably chance :P Which is sorta good 'cause CBBC do the best promotional work for the show evar :D

is luke the one that DIES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ridiculous, I have watched SJA every time it has aired. I have just had to do coursework so have missed the Gift Part One and I come to watch it on Iplayer and its only avaliable in HD whereas the others are "Also HD" meaning normal people can watch them without HD, HD slows the computer down so therefore I must miss out! So annoyed at the BBC...

Anonymous - I don't think it'll be Luke. Sarah Jane would be too devastated. We had to have a little Luke drama - there's one every series: Lost Boy, Enemy of the Bane - it's always the last episode of the series where she almost loses him, but she always gets him back.

Anonymous - maybe they'll add the Normal version later? If they have it up for every other episode, I don't see why they should change now.

Nabu San said...

Sorry to hear, Anonymous! Imho it was one of the best episodes of the series, hope you can catch it soon! And hope you got your cwk in on time!

Sorry to kill the suspense, but it 100% won't be Luke, trust me :) Finale tomorrow! Finale tomorrow!

I tend to wait until ep2's on iplayer before watching ep1, I like to see them together... but I don't know if I can hold out til tomorrow...!

(My earlier comment was meant to be a subtle SJS audio less vs. fewer joke... it was either too subtle or, more likely, just not that funny! Oops...)

Haha Alas, after waiting and with this internet service provider being tricky all evening, I managed to watch it. Easily the best episode, I loved it. Still haven't seen the burnt sausage from the trailer.. Oh well better luck next time :D

Finale Tommorow + Dr Who EOT CIN Scene!

Let the Hunt Begin!!!

ipsissimus clay - I wish I had your determination. I have trouble waiting to get out of my lectures before I get to watch it. Trust me though, you'll love it! Brilliant ep!

Anonymous - really glad you got to see it, and massively glad you enjoyed it! I can't wait for that burnt sausage scene - might be the final scene of the series! Having a normal family moment? Clyde boasting about his cooking skills, and then the sausage coming out burnt? That'd be a nice way to finish things.

Sorry, I got a bit carried away...

I believe the gang will be having a picnic/bbq for the final few minutes! I predict a soppy aside from Sarah Jane about the universe :P

Stel said...

Well now, Nabu, the series just wouldn't be complete without that slightly cheesey but lovable interjection in the final minute from our beloved former companion about the Universe and how wonderful life/Earth/her son/her "family" are.

Zac said...

This series - It'll be something along the lines of "There's something I have got from the universe.. A family.. And nearly a husband but not quite there yet"

(I'll name myself I was the Anonymous complained about HD :P)

Stel said...

Zac - I like your thinking. Something a little predictable, about how all the trials and tribulations are worth it to have what she has now? Yes, she lost Peter, but she still has so much in this world? Only eight hours to find out!

Nabu San said...

Oh god, if she references Peter I'll cry *wuss* The ending speech has so much potential, I just hope they make the most of it this series.

Loved Mona Lisa and am eagerly awaiting the little Tubers putting The Gift up for their Yankee cousins to watch, although I hate that it's the end of series 3. *pouts* Having two eps a week makes it go too fast. They need to do a full 13 episode series, 45 minutes per, like Doctor Who does.

Anyway, can someone from the UK help this Yank out and describe what Mona Lisa's accent would be called over there? I'm no 'enry 'iggins--I can hear a difference in accents but don't know what they mean about the region the speaker comes from or their class. ML sounded a whole lot more common than her artsy image would have led you to expect, which was hilarious, but that's all I can tell. Is there a name for her accent?

Zac said...

I think SJ has had too much Heartbreak. Losing Luke would send her off the rails.

Ah well 15 mins till the hunt begins!! I'm so glad this format has been agreed. It would have been torture to wait till next week

Zac said...

Weimlady - Suranne Jones was in Corrie which is set in Manchester so it could be Manc either that or London accent, either way it grated on me :P

Stel said...

Weimlady - it's a London accent, definitely, I'm living on the outskirts of Manc at the moment and it's definitely not a Manc accent.

I don't know about everyone else but that ep - possibly the BEST SJA ep ever. Just my opinion. Brilliant mix of humour and drama and celebrating humanity. Only thing wrong? No Maria. (Yeah, I had to say it.)

Zac said...

The Sausage!!

I'm just concerned that there are two Slitheen imprisoned in a spaceship in Antarctica...

Nice episode and lovely happy ending.. No Haresh and Gita though.. :/

Weimlady said...

Thanks, Stel & Zac, for answering my question. Looking forward to this one and the box set! Can we petition them for more special features in the box set? Can we convince them that SJA's audience wants commentaries? Would SO love to have Lis & Co. doing commentaries on all eps! I've heard they may include commentary from DT & LS on The Wedding--that would be AMAZING! Crossing all fingers & toes...

Zac said...

Dunno about you lot, but I think a SJA Soundtrack would be brilliant!

Stel said...

Zac - totally agree with you, a soundtrack would be brilliant! Although they re-use a lot of the music. I think they'd be ok doing one for this series though - there was loads of new themes for Mona Lisa's Revenge and I think for the Eternity Trap too. And as for the Slitheen trapped in Antartica - wouldn't they have tramsmatted them home or something? I don't think they'd have left them on the ship - too much chance for them to interfere.

Weimlady - I'm crossing everything too for that comentary. And a petition does sound like a good idea - the series two boxset was so episode heavy, and not much else.

Nabu San said...

As far as plotholes go, I was more concerned about the Rakweed in Sarah Jane's safe :P But the Slitheen still being on the ship was well-remembered! As well as the ship being left behind in general, make a nice addition to UNIT's reverse engineering department!

I think that was the best two-parter of the series. D'awww at sick Luke! And huzzah at brilliant finale speeches. God, I'll miss this show. Fare thee well for another year, Bannerman Road! Can't wait to hear what ratings it got tomorrow!

Zac said...

Thinking about it, they probably let them free anyway because they are Slitheen-Blathereen, they probably just transmatted them somewhere across the Galaxy. I hope to see more of the Blathereen in the future perhaps...

Stel said...

I thought the safe would still open into where the black hole used to be, and that was why she stuffed the rakweed in there? Or did that use stop when K9 returned?

I can't believe we've got to wait another year for our SJA fix. They better bring out another audio book soon!

Zac - I don't know if they would have let them go, the Blathereen didn't seem to like their cousins very much. but I really hope they're coming back, too. Brilliant villians!

Zac said...

Yeh I'd like them to come back.. And some family rivalry! :)

Stel said...

Zac - brilliant! :D Two sets of villains trying to conquer Earth - and each other! Make for a great opener.
